Building a Strong Immune System: Part V

Over the past several months I have written a series of posts detailing some of the best ways to support the immune system. It is the one thing, the only thing, that protects us from sickness, ranging from the common cold to full-blown disease. The last topic in the series is about supplements. I chose three that can play a vital role in a proper immune response.

How well our immune system is functioning has everything to do with productivity, energy levels, mood, and happiness. Unfortunately, in our modern age, the immune system is being stressed to its limits. In many people, it overreacts, (auto-immune conditions for example) attacking the body’s own tissue causing massive body inflammation and disease as a result.

All of the chemicals in the environment from our food, water, air, household products, etc., interfere with our immune system as well. It simply does not know what to do with all the junk. Much of it gets stored in our fat cells as a result, even our bones over time. This is a protective mechanism, but in the meantime, it can wreak havoc on our bodies.

There are many, many things we have control over when it comes to shoring up our defenses so that our body reacts appropriately to threats on our health. I have written about many of them, and all of this information is included in my health coaching programs. This includes the big "C". Nothing has changed here in the last year, healthy people have much less to fear from it, or anything else.

An extremely powerful example of this came to light last December when over 120 (and growing) scientists and medical experts from around the globe came together and signed a letter, "calling for the immediate, widespread use of Vitamin D intake" (getting some sun is even better, I do both). This came after reviewing 70 different studies on C-19 and Vitamin D.

The scientists are of the opinion that low levels of Vitamin D compromise the response of the immune system to deal with respiratory diseases, C-19 in particular. They even go so far as to say:

"Evidence to date suggests the possibility that the COVID-19 pandemic sustains itself in large part through infection of those with low vitamin D, and that deaths are largely in those with deficiency."

Think about that for a second! If everyone had sufficient levels of Vitamin D, it is highly probable this would not even be a pandemic. What a wonderful example showing how much control we have over our health. So yes, Vitamin D3 is at the top of my supplement list and has been for at least 10 years now. Let’s talk about some others.

Zinc is a mineral that comes from food. It is essential to life. According to Chris MasterJohn, Ph.D., "Zinc directly inhibits at least two tools that the original SARS coronavirus uses to reproduce. Its therefore likely effective against the new coronavirus as well". Chris knows his stuff with a Ph.D. in Nutritional Science.

The last supplement for robust immune function I will mention here is Elderberry. It is very efficient against one of the three known coronaviruses. Since the current strain works much the same way, it is probable that it has the potential to destroy the virus’s ability to multiply, and therefore survive. This is again information I found researching Chris's extensive work on the topic.

There are several other key supplements I take in addition to the three mentioned above. As a Functional Health Coach working with Fullscript, I have the ability to offer anyone interested, clients or not, a big discount off of most supplements. I have saved my clients and others hundreds of dollars in the process, and it is almost exclusively where I purchase my own.

Supplementation can be very expensive, believe me I know, but it doesn't have to be that way. All Fullscript products are vetted by a medical advisory board so that you know they are going to be of high quality. It is a source I trust, which is important, as not all supplements are created equal. Many are full of additives, fillers, and low-quality ingredients.

If you would like to learn more hit me up on Instagram, give me a call, send me an email, or contact me via my website, and I will answer any questions you may have. Through the end of February, anyone who decides to purchase any supplements will automatically get 25% off their first order, regardless.

Being a resilient human being is nearly always our own choice. It's too bad it took something like C-19 to thrust personal health to the front of our nation’s mind. I have been talking about wellness for years now, and C-19 has changed little what I already do to maintain and protect my own health. If heart disease, diabetes, and cancer are not enough to wake us up, maybe this will be.

Be resilient. Be empowered. Don't live in fear. Own your health.
